Cindy R. Asleson-Smith

September 19, 2007 — March 3, 2015

Cindy Rosella Asleson Smith, 42, of Monarch passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2014 at Peace Hospice, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Senior Center in Neihart. Cremation has taken place under the direction of O’Connor Funeral Home. Born on November 10, 1972 at the Mountain View Medical Center in White Sulphur Spring, Cindy was the daughter of Kenneth Aselson and Sharon Lenington Maki. She grew up around Monarch and enjoyed a great childhood living at the Sun Mountain Ranch with her brother Evan, and later her sisters Kerri and Cristy. Cindy attended Belt schools and graduated from Belt High School in 1991 with honors and a scholarship to attend the University of Montana, where she went for one year. She then attended Sheridan College in Sheridan, WY, California State University in Fresno, CA and the University of Wyoming Outreach School in Laramie. Eventually she returned to Missoula and graduated with a BA in English Literature and Philosophy. She later attended Texas A and M University in Corpus Christi, TX graduating with a degree in Geomatics and surveying certificate. While attending the University of Montana she worked as a Survey Technician for the U.S. Forest Service as well as an Office Automation Clerk. When in Wyoming she was a Surveying Technician. Upon returning to Missoula to complete her degree, she was a dispatcher for U of M security. Then, in 2001, she accepted a job with the Bureau of Reclamation and worked out of Yuma, AZ. In 2002 she was employed by the Bureau of Land Management in Bishop, CA where she stayed until attending Texas A and M in 2005, and graduating in 2006. She then accepted a job with Baker Surveying Company as a CAD Technician in Blanco, TX. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert Paul Smith on July 3, 2006. Cindy quit working to become a mom when Cash Waylan was born on September 19, 2007. They continued to live in various places in Texas, traveling to wherever Robert was working as a professional welder and iron worker. Then, in 2009, they moved to Monarch and Cindy gave birth to their second son “Junior” Kenneth Wyatt in Great Falls on September 13, 2009. Cindy’s hobbies were hiking in the mountains she loved so much and reading. Her hiking abilities were second to none as anyone hiking with her would tell you. She was a very avid reader, finishing a book every two to three days then calling family and friends for more. After the boys were born, they became her “hobby”. She loved her boys dearly and enjoyed spending time with them teaching various crafts, telling them Bible stories, and about her life growing up. In the last couple of years she had taken a job with the Postal Service and had enjoyed working in the various local Post Offices, meeting and visiting with people. Cindy is survived by her husband, Robert Paul Smith; sons Cash Waylan, age seven and “Junior” Kenneth Wyatt, age five; father Kenneth Asleson and stepmother Judy Asleson; mother Sharon Maki and stepfather Richard Maki, all of Monarch; sisters Kerri Asleson (James Harkins) of Pell Lake WI and Cristy Bodkins (J.T.) Stengrimson of Fort Shaw; borthers Evan Asleson (Jordy Glick) of Belt; nieces Amara, Jordyn, Leah, Samantha, Aundrea, and Kaiah; nephews Trey, William, and Terrance; and many cousins and good friends. We remember how you loved us and what we keep in memory is ours forever. Cindy was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Susan B. Komen Cancer Institute.
