Jean C. Guile

October 10, 1914 — November 6, 2015

Jean C. Guile, 101, climbed to the top of the mountain on November 6, 2015, a beautiful Montana day. Private memorial services were held. Cremation has taken place under the direction of O’Connor Funeral Home. Jean was born to Dorthea (Wilberg) and Keith P. Caswell on October 10, 1914 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her family lived in various Minnesota cities as her Dad was a State Highway Engineer. She graduated from the Winona State Teachers College where she met her future husband, Clark C. Guile. They spent many days boating on the Mississippi River. After several job relocations, they settled in Redfield, South Dakota. Jean had various jobs including working for the local newspaper and eventually they purchased the town’s only grocery store and operated it. Nugget, the family dog, joined them at this time in exchange for an unpaid grocery bill. In 1959 the family moved to Montana and eventually settled in Great Falls. Her time in Montana was spent educating, volunteering, hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, rafting canoeing, and spending any available time in the mountains. There was always time for a good card game with friends and family and chocolate sodas. She is survived by her sister, Joann; brothers Ray and Steve; daughters Dianne (Dennis) McGurran, Jean (Skip) Joseph, Joni (Brian) Remely; son Pete; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of good friends. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Clark; brothers Bud, Keith, Jack, and Bill. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lewis and Clark Interpretative Center or Peace Hospice.
