Joyce Elaine Jermunson

Joyce Elaine Jermunson, aged 100, of Great Falls, passed away on August 31, 2026, in Great Falls, MT.

Joyce was born on May 15, 1926, in Virginia, Minnesota to Julius Buford “Bud” Johnson and Eleanore Mae (Davis) Johnson and grew up in Virginia, MN. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia, in 1943. Her dream was to travel and dance, so she joined the Selma Marlow’s Chorus and June Taylor Dancers. Joyce would dance in Chicago, Montreal, Canada, Miami Beach, Cuba and was even a Rockette in New York City. She moved with a friend to Great Falls, MT and waitressed at the 3D International Restaurant. Joyce married Garfield Jermunson on January 10, 1956. They lived in Brady, MT until 1975, when they moved to Great Falls.

Joyce was an excellent seamstress. She taught sewing classes from a studio Gar built her in the basement of the farmhouse and she made clothes for her family and friends. Joyce also enjoyed cooking and was often called upon to cook for the farmhands. She served many delicious meals out of the back of her station wagon during haying and harvest seasons. Playing cards was a favorite pastime. Joyce enjoyed Bridge with her friends in a weekly Bridge game that alternated between all the ladies’ homes. She was also an avid reader.

Joyce was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 37 for 66 years and Sons of Norway/Lodsen Lodge.

Joyce is survived by her son, Tim Jermunson (Frankie); daughter, Garla (Tim) Boland; granddaughters, Genna Boland, Ellen (Eric) Boland-Monroe, and Katie (Kory) Chartier; 4 great-grandchildren; nephew, Paul Jermunson, who provided her with laughter and sweets; and several nieces and nephews. She loved us all equally!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gar, in March 2019; parents; and a granddaughter.

Joyce loved watching Lawrence Welk and leaves us with “And now `til we meet again, Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehen.”

Joyce will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Lawn Mausoleum with a private family service. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
