Robert Bob Place, 87, of Great Falls, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014 from natural causes at Benefis Grandview of Great Falls. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 3:00pm at OConnor Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to O’Connor Funeral Home. Robert was born August 22, 1927 in New England, North Dakota and was raised in the Amadon, ND area. He went to high school in Bowman until he quit and joined the Navy at 17 years of age. After returning from the war he went to New York and worked as a foreman for the Ridin High Dude Ranch. In 1947 he was checking out the Lewistown, MT area and was told about the PN Ranch. He returned with his granddad A.M. Scoville and purchased it in 1948. Bob went to Auctioneering School in 1962. He used his auctioneering to run a business, support nonprofit organization events, entertain all the grandchildren, and anyone who would listen to him. Auctioneering was his singing. He was an Area Manager for the Conklin Company and used their product to roof for many years. He loved direct sales, leather work, and everything to do with horses. Most of all, he loved being a cowboy! Bob married Gene Harrison (his Genie Marie) December 17, 1950 in Columbus, MT and they were married 64 years. Six children were born to them: Randy, Terry, Pamela, Gail, Julie, and Matthew. He has 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
