Vern Field

Vernon “Vern” H. Field, 89, of Great Falls passed away Feb. 14, 2015 in Great Falls. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at Fort Harrison veteran’s cemetery. Vern was born Jan. 16, 1926 in Havre, Montana to Victor and Idelia (Sandlie) Field. He attended schools in Havre and Glasgow, graduating from Havre High School in 1944. Vern obtained a BA in business administration from University of Montana in 1950 and then his master’s degree in business education from Montana State University in 1977. Vern married Carrol Krupsky in 1954 in Lewistown, MT; their marriage ended in 1974. In 1977 he entered into marriage with Margaret Sisson in Elko, Nevada; their marriage ended in 1979. He served in the US Navy during WWII, 1944-1946. RdM 2/C on P.T. boat in MTB Squadron 23. He served on LCI after war ended in 1945- serving in the South Pacific area including New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Philippines. Vern was a high school teacher for 28 years, retiring in 1980 from Lewistown. He also taught in Dixon, Virginia City, two years in Canyonville, Oregon. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club and the Big Sky Radio Control Club in Great Falls. Vern organized the Central Montana Humane Society in Lewistown in the 1970’s, he was also their president. In his spare time Vern enjoyed fly fishing for over 70 years, his competitive pool league, bicycling, model planes and golf. He also had numerous fishing articles published in national and Canadian magazines since 1967. He is survived by his daughters, Debi Field of New York City, NY; Mia (John) McGreevey of Missoula; son, Mark Field of Great Falls; his grandchildren, Logan and TiLynn McGreevey of Missoula. Vern was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials in Vern’s name are suggested to the Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
