Obituary for Dr. Perry Albert Argabright

Dr. Perry Albert Argabright, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Great Falls, MT, on January 6, 2020. Dr. Argabright is survived by his wife, Margie; sons, Vic (Linda) and Jeff (Kim) and their children Amy, Gina, Ryan, and Jake; and daughters,Terri (Mark) and Julie (Jeff).
Dr. Argabright was born in Pueblo, CO, in 1929 to Lloyd and Margaret Argabright. Before moving to Montana in 2015, Dr. Argabright was a lifelong resident of Colorado, predominantly residing in Douglas County. Dr. Argabright graduated from Englewood High School as a star baseball pitcher with professional prospects but chose to pursue a career in chemistry. He obtained his BS at Denver University, followed by graduate studies in organic chemistry at the University of Colorado in Boulder. In 1951, he married Margie Jean Underwood (parents Oak and Helen) and resided in Boulder until his doctoral degree was conferred in 1956. Dr. Argabright performed postdoctoral work at Esso Research and Development (Exxon) in Newark, NJ until 1962, leaving as Group Leader. That same year, Dr. Argabright returned to Colorado as a research scientist for Marathon Oil Company, retiring in 1988 as an Associate Research Director.

As an avid fisherman, he was looking for a cabin on a lake and found his dream in 1964 with a little cabin on Letitia Lake at Red Feather Lakes. Spending time at the cabin with his family and fishing were the true joys in his life.

Dr. Argabright had an immensely successful career as a polymer scientist with 77 US and 121 Foreign patents with over 20 scientific publications. Amongst his greatest creations were UV resistant urethane paints, rocket fuels and long chain polymers for tertiary oil recovery. His love of organic chemistry was evident to anyone who ever met him.
